Early this month, Toyota announced that it has awarded 22 scholarships to students showing excellence in STEM-related fields in honor of Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month. The Toyota scholarships for Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) students was awarded through a collaborative partnership between Toyota and a non-profit organization dedicated to providing scholarships for these students called the Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund.
The 22 scholarships amount to $5,000 each to help students in their first two years in STEM programs at the university level. Toyota gave out the awards at an event it holds each year at the Toyota Automobile Museum in Torrance, California. At the dinner they also allowed Asian and Pacific Islander American Toyota employees to share their experiences with the scholarship recipients.
The recipients of the 2016 awards were chosen from a pool of 8,000 applicants with a variety of ethnic backgrounds and chosen majors. Toyota is proud to support initiatives to diversify STEM education and careers.
